This direct connection can boost disk access performance in I/O-intensive operations.

 
For a number of reasons, I can't pass an entire HBA to the VM. As a proof of concept, I installed the OS on a virtual disk and set up my three storage drives with Raw Device Mapping on ESXi so they could be passed through individually to TrueNAS.
